I have come to realize that there is a widespread misconception around whom a next of kin is and his or her actual role, especially as it relates to property and money rights. There is need to correct this wrong notion.

A next of kin is merely a contact person in the event of an emergency or death. Nothing more.

He or she has no inheritance, ownership, custody or access rights over money or other property belonging to another person.
