5 WRONG BELIEFS THAT HAVE AFFECTED MORE LAND AND BUILDING/HOUSE BUYERS THAN SCAMMERS
In Nigeria’s property market, some misconceptions do not come from fraudsters, they come from the buyers themselves in the form of “common knowledge.” Sadly, these wrong beliefs have led to loss of property and landed more people in court than scams.
Some of them are:
1. “Friendly sellers don’t cheat.” Fraudsters are the friendliest people you will ever meet. Charm is their first weapon.
2. “Survey Plan is all I need.” A survey only maps the land. It does not prove ownership. Without ownership verification, it is useless.
3. “Family land is always safe.” Many family lands are battlefields of unending disputes between relatives, some stretching decades.
4. “A receipt makes me the owner.” In law, a receipt is proof of payment, not proof of ownership. Legal transfer must be done.
5. “Agents always know the truth.” Many do not. And some who do will never tell you if it threatens their commission.
These are dangerous because they feel logical. In property transactions, facts and truth come from proper investigation, not assumptions.
Get a Property Lawyer to check ownership records, verify documents, confirm the absence of disputes, guide you through each step and prepare comprehensive purchase documents for you.
Property is too expensive to buy based on hearsay. Rely on only verified facts; it is the smart way to acquire property.
